Frequently Asked Questions

How many calories do 10,000 steps burn?
For a 70 kg person with an average stride length, 10,000 steps burns approximately 350-450 calories. The exact number depends on your weight, walking speed, terrain, and stride length.
How many steps do I need to burn 500 calories?
For a 70 kg person, approximately 12,000-14,000 steps burns around 500 calories. Heavier individuals will need fewer steps, and lighter individuals will need more steps to reach the same calorie target.
Are all steps equal in terms of calorie burn?
No. Brisk walking burns more calories per step than a slow stroll. Walking uphill, on uneven terrain, or carrying weight also increases per-step calorie expenditure. Step counters do not usually account for these differences.
How do I find my stride length?
Walk 10 steps at your normal pace, measure the total distance, and divide by 10. Average stride length is about 0.74 metres (2.4 feet) for men and 0.67 metres (2.2 feet) for women. Our calculator uses these defaults if you do not enter your own.
